The older streets around downtown Lee's Summit have pre-war and early postwar houses with original solid wood — the same refinishing opportunity as the Kansas-side older suburbs, and often overlooked because the city reads as a newer place overall.
Most of the city, though, was built after 1990. Out toward Lakewood, Longview and the newer developments, the flooring is engineered, carpet or vinyl, and the work is installation rather than refinishing.
One thing that is specific to this side of the metro: longer runs of open-plan main level in the newer builds. That makes continuous floor layout and moisture control more important, because a single floor spanning kitchen, dining and living space has no natural break to absorb movement.
